Leonard Malan studied electrical engeneering at the age of 19 years, and due to financial constrains, he had to go work fulltime , and still continued to do his studies part time @ Athlone college in Cape Town.This is where he was introduced to the piano as an instrument

Leonard then worked for a Local piano tuner , and found a keen interest in the mechanics , and build of the piano.After 7years working side by side with a piano tuner he then got the oppotunity to go work for a bigger company , and that is where , he could apply all his knowlege .Leonard ,as a young man was very fortunate to work and meet the right people in the piano manufacturing , by the likes of Mr.schell , and many more ,with this knowledge he became and studied tuning and rebuilding of pianos.
